Article: Christmas Gift Ideas for Parents in Hong Kong

Black Resty MARS 400 red light panel on its folding tabletop stand

Christmas Gift Ideas for Parents in Hong Kong

Finding a Christmas present for parents or grandparents in Hong Kong usually comes down to one question: will it still be used once the wrapping paper is gone? Many families here already own the kitchen gadgets, hampers and scarves of earlier years. This guide first lists what to check in any practical gift for the home. It then explains why Resty picks MARS 400, our tabletop red light panel, and how to order so the delivery fits your plans.

What to check in any practical gift

These points apply whatever you buy, from a rice cooker to a reading lamp. Ask them before you pay, not after the box is opened.

Controls on the device itself

A gift that needs a phone app, an online account or Wi-Fi pairing depends on someone setting it up and keeping it updated. Look for buttons and a display on the product itself, labelled clearly enough that a quick look tells you what is on.

Everything in one box

Read the listed box contents. If an adaptor, a stand or a cable has to be bought separately, the gift is not ready on the day it is unwrapped. Check as well that the plug fits a Hong Kong socket.

Delivery to their address in Hong Kong

Large boxes are awkward to carry across the harbour or up the stairs of a walk-up building. A shop that delivers to the address you choose saves you carrying it across town on a crowded December weekend.

A warranty with a start date and a contact

Find out how long the warranty runs, whether it starts at purchase or at delivery and what it covers. Note the email address for a damaged or faulty item, so the question already has an answer before it comes up.

Somewhere to ask questions

Before ordering, send the shop one question and see how clearly it replies. A clear answer before the sale is a good sign for later.

Our pick for Christmas: MARS 400

MARS 400 is the compact red light panel from Resty. Its folding stand is attached to the panel, so it goes on a steady table and tilts to the angle you want; there is no wall bracket to fit and no floor stand to order. Inside are 60 LEDs: 30 red at 660 nm and 30 near-infrared at 850 nm.

  • The power button switches the light on, and the R/NIR button picks red, near-infrared or the two together.
  • A session runs for one standard 10-minute cycle; when it ends, the light turns itself off.
  • The buttons and countdown display sit on the side of the panel. There is no app, no touchscreen and no remote control.
  • In the box: the panel with its tabletop stand, the original power accessories, protective glasses and the user manual.
  • The MARS 400 warranty runs for 3 years from delivery and covers manufacturing and material defects in normal home use.

The panel is aimed at one chosen area at a time, such as the face or neck, rather than the whole body. Its listed weight is 2.6 kg and its listed nominal power is 82 W. Full specifications and the current price are on the MARS 400 page.

Ordering for Christmas

MARS 400 is a pre-order, and delivery in Hong Kong is free. Pre-orders ship in mid-November. As that is an estimate, not a fixed date, order well before the day you plan to give it.

To have it sent straight to your parents, give their Hong Kong address as the delivery address when you check out. Checkout accepts FPS, AlipayHK and WeChat Pay. If you would rather open it together over the holidays, have it sent to your own home and bring it along on your visit.

The first session, together

Plan the first session for a day you are there: go through the manual together and pick a steady table for the panel. With the power disconnected, unfold the stand, then connect the supplied power accessories as the manual shows and check the countdown display. For a start, the manual gives a distance of about 30 cm from the panel and three sessions a week.

For someone who likes warmth while seated

MARS 400 is a light panel; it is not built to warm a room or a person. If someone on your list mainly enjoys warmth while sitting in a favourite chair, Resty also sells infrared heat lamps on a floor stand: a 275W lamp with one head and a 550W lamp with two heads, each with a built-in timer and a remote control. Compare them on the infrared heat lamps page.

Use and safety

  • Wear the supplied protective glasses for the whole session, also in near-infrared mode, and do not look into the LEDs.
  • Use one standard 10-minute cycle per session in a dry indoor room, stay awake and stop sooner if your eyes or skin feel uncomfortable.
  • Anyone who cannot recognise discomfort or stop the session must not use the panel on their own.
  • Ask a qualified healthcare professional before use if pregnant, sensitive to light, taking photosensitising medication or living with an eye condition.
